A reinforcing method using outer cables is popularly used, but it has very little effect on reducing live load stress. However, by using pre-stressed reinforcing steel plates instead of cables, we can reduce both dead load stress and live load stress in steel beams. In this study, we investigated the behaviour of a reinforcing steel plate and a reinforced steel beam under prestressing and live-loading. As a result, we confirmed that a new reinforcing method for steel beams using pre-stressed steel plates is very effective in reducing both dead load stress and live load stress.
