Algorithms and Programming are known as being difficult topics in Computer Science. Developing and implementing an algorithm poses the novice programmer with great difficulties. These difficulties are even more when the object-oriented technique, which is considered to be more abstract and demanding than the technique for procedural programming, is used. In this paper we present the results of an empirical study that we carried out with the aim of studying novice programmers' attitudes in developing and implementing algorithms using an educational OOP environment. The educational OOP environment that we used is objectKarel.
