In-situ thermal remediation of soils requires high temperatures maintained at sufficient levels to volatilize chemical contaminants. An on-site data acquisition system is required to continuously monitor these temperatures for multiple sets of data points within the treatment zone. Accurate and reliable temperature readings must be immediately available to the remediation system operators at any location. An innovative, low-cost temperature monitoring system has been developed for this application. This system uses a subsurface array of digital temperature sensors to monitor thermal processes. Temperature data from the site is stored in redundant databases and immediately accessible via the internet. The system operators are able to respond to real-time data for optimal control of the remediation process.
