The current trend of manufacturing companies is to maximize their communication and collaboration capacity by integrating their operations with those of their business partners. The Internet growth and the associated software technologies provide the means for the realization of this trend. This paper presents the application of web-based software technologies for supporting a set of supply chain business processes, related to the maritime industry. In particular, the ship-repair business process is discussed, involving the transactions among the ship-owner, the shipyard, the material suppliers and the shipyard's subcontractors. The software implementation is based on the 3-tier paradigm, representing a cost effective, simple to configure and use, platform independent integrated environment, which allows small enterprises with moderate information technology infrastructure, to participate in the supply chain network. The case study addressed, focuses on the business functions, taking place in the process of planning and controlling the preparation and execution of a ship-repair contract, in a number of critical ship-repair nodes. The web-based solution presented, demonstrates the way that members of the supply chain may work together, in the ship repair business processes, fostering the efficient communication and information sharing across the participating actors.
