This paper discusses the development of an NTSC-based panoramic video collection system to create immersive route drive-throughs of urban environments. The project requirements and the technological limitations to meet those requirements are discussed from an engineering design and end-use perspective and provide a backdrop for discussing current limitations in the areas of size, durability, resolution, and power constraints of current commerical collection components.
