Web services have emerged as a key enabling technology for connecting business systems. In this paper, we propose a web service gateway as the building block for business connections. We demonstrate the validity of this approach by building a service-oriented e-market. We explore the use of the service gateway in facilitating dynamic e-business. We discuss extensions to the service gateway to provide capabilities for service recommendation and automatic service composition. We analyze the value of these extensions in enhancing the technology base for dynamic e-business.
