The Important problem that faces design engineers is flow to assign tolerance limits. In practical applications, tolerances are most often assigned as an information compromise between functionality, quality and manufacturing cost. Frequently the comprise is obtained iteratively by trial and error. A more scientific approach is often desirable for better performance. So, in this work, it is proposed to use genetic algorithm (GA) for the design of tolerances for assemblies. The dimension considered in this work is an assembly made up of four components. The problem is to design the tolerance of individual components to achieve the required assembly tolerance the zero percentage rejection. The above problem is successfully solved using the proposed algorithm and the result is presented.
