A mathematical model of pneumatic shock absorber is set up in this paper, and the computer simulation program using Matlab is also designed. Using the computer program, we can obtain the elastic property and damping characteristic of pneumatic shock absorber, and the effects on its performance caused by parameters variation such as gas pressure, the diameter of the damping hole, the diameter of the cylinder and the frequency of the excitation. A mathematical model of 1/4 vehicle used of pneumatic shock absorber is set up and the computer simulation program is also designed. Using the computer program, we can simulate the displacement, velocity and acceleration characteristics of the wheel, unsprung mass and sprung mass, which provides the basis for evaluating the performance of pneumatic shock absorber and the whole vehicle, and also provides the basis for their optimization design.
