Grey cast iron is one of the longest used materials. However, it is getting to be pushed into thernbackground, but thanks to its advantages it is still used in a wide range of applications nowadays.rnThe tendency of the present development is to decrease mass, keeping the favorable features of thernmaterial. This can be achieved only if the most accessible parameters are measured duringrnmanufacturing, and we complete the traditional assays (addition of strength, Brinell hardness) withrntests.rnThe most important factors, which influence the mechanical quality of cast iron are:rn1. Chemical structure;rn2. Metallurgical factors influencing crystallization;rn3. Treatment of the cake of fusion;rn4. Cooling conditions.
