In the proposed paper, nationality based on the language spoken (cultural differences) as there is a big difference between nationality as measured by country of residence and culture as based upon spoken language in combination with visitor demographics are used to investigate the similarities and differences between international tourists from China and the USA with regard to their perception of Vietnamese service provider's attributes and performance. The study presents the findings of a self-administered survey of 170 American and 235 Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam during 2003 and 2004. The results indicate that there are more differences than similarities between the two samples in terms of cultural values and perceptions. Cultural values have a strong impact on the perceived importance towards Vietnamese hosts' attributes and performance by Chinese and American tourists. The implications for tourism industry management destination and marketers are presented. It is recommended that the Vietnamese tourism authorities target international tourism markets more precisely and improve the provision of specific tourism services in Vietnam.
