The reed beds at the Air Products chemical works at Billingham, Teeside, UK have now been operational for ten years. The history of the site at Billingham is long and varied, and a brief overview is relevant in order to understand the rationale behind the selection of the soil-based reed bed system above other options for the treatment of liquor from the site.
