A pilot scale experimental investigation of the condensation of zinc vapour from smelter off-gases was performed. The work investigated the feasibility of using the high heat and mass transfer rates associated with a fluidised bed to condense zinc directly from smelter off-gases containing zinc vapour. Of particular interest was whether zine would revert to zinc xodie during the process of condensation, and whether a zinc fog would form and be carried out of the condenser.
