The transfer and colonization of bacteria is a persistent threat to our health. Surfaces in both the home (i.e. kitchen, bath, walls, and rugs) and institutions (i.e. restaurants, hotels, and hospitals) are breeding grounds for microbes that threaten our health. Antimicrobial materials have provided the first line of defense against the transfer of pathogenic disease. We have developed a novel, safe, easy-to-use, and long-lasting antimicrobial polymer technology that protects surfaces, including textiles and nonwovens, from bacterial and fungal growth. Defense against microbes is durable, meaning antibacterial properties persist even after washing or rinsing. Substrates treated with this new technology maintain their mechanical and aesthetic properties and resist bacterial growth. Data is presented showing the utility of this technology in nonwoven and textile applications.
