Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) intends to operate their Cedar supply tornprovide 3-log Cryptosporidium, 4-log Giardia, and 5-log virusrninactivation through the combined application of ozone and ultravioletrn(UV) light disinfection processes in anticipation of the LimitedrnAlternative to Filtration regulatory requirements.rnThe Cedar Treatment Facilities are currently under construction in KingrnCounty, Washington and are scheduled to be on-line by mid-2004. Thernfacilities are sized for 180-mgd capacity and will supply approximatelyrntwo-thirds of Seattle's drinking water. The combination of ozone andrnUV treatment provides the Cedar supply with the desired level ofrndisinfection as well as taste and odor control.
