In this paper, the productivity and growing course of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) on peatlands are investigated. For the purpose of analysis, long-term inventory data of permanent trial plots located in the area of Vesetnieki Station of Permanent Ecological Research are used. Analysis of the data gives guidelines for establishment of spruce cultures and management of young growths. Also, some causes of forest stand decay are exposed.
