The inhibiting effect of fertilisation on radiocaesium uptake by trees has been shown to be of long duration. However, only scarce data is available for different tree species and for different types of peatlands. Our aim was to examine the effect of PK fertiliser and wood ash application on radiocaesium (~(137)Cs) contamination of birch growing on a cutaway peatland. According to preliminary results the highest ~(137)Cs concentrations in stemwood and in branches were measured from unfertilised birches (53 and 122 Bq kg~(-1), respectively). However, 21 years after application fertilisation did not show a statistically significant effect on ~(137)Cs concentration in stemwood (p=0.608) or in branches (p=0.202).
