Current design models for unreinforced concrete and masonry walls are different, although the two structural materials show quite similar behavior. The existing models do not consider the different non-linear material behaviors of various masonry types or concrete strengths. For this reason a new consistent model for the design of unreinforced concrete and masonry walls is being developed. Simplified design equations allowing realistic material properties to be easily modeled by a few specific input parameters are proposed.
