The toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is an engineering measure of the capacity of the composite to absorb energy during failure. In this study, the load-deflection response and toughness parameters of SFRC were studied in accordance with RILEM and JSCE standards based on the CPL configuration. Several concrete specimens with the same mixture proportion but reinforced with different types of steel fibers were fabricated and tested conforming RILEM bending test recommendation. Afterward, the specimens were considered on the feature of basic modes in load-deflection response for investigating of its relationship with fiber content and specifications. Moreover, the toughness parameters were also calculated on both RILEM and JSCE standards for comparing the results in the aspect of correlation. Finally, the effects of fiber characteristics on both standards parameters were also investigated to find any specific trend. It is resulted that load-deflection response differs by changing fiber content and specifications. It was also concluded that there is an acceptable correlation between RILEM and JSCE toughness parameters, although the RILEM indices will present more information about the post-peak part of load-deflection curve. Finally, the results show that improving fiber specifications reflects almost the same amount of changes in toughness indices while fiber content increasing does not follow the trend.
