Although it is difficult to estimate the remaining strength of the corroded members correctly, it is very important problem in order to actualize the proper maintenance for steel structures. In this paper, a simple estimation method of the remaining bending strength was proposed for corroded plate girders. The bending test of the scrapped plate girders were carried out focusing attention on the torsional buckling of compressive flanges. The following conclusions were obtained from the experimental results: (1) A simple estimation method based on the beam theory was proposed for bending strength of corroded plate girder. The ultimate strength of corroded flanges can be estimated by the representative thickness t_R = t_(avg) + 2σ_t, where t_(avg) = average thickness, and σ_t = standard deviation of flange thickness. (2) The bending strength would be decreased about 20~24% than that of the corrosion-free girder.
