Quality of cold-recycled asphalt paving can be improved by use of newly-developed bitumen emulsions and balanced mixtures of input materials. The paper describes a development project that was carried out in 1994-99, with the object of improving the standard of cold-recycled materials. In our development work, we concentrated on three points: 1. addition of emulsion based on hard or harder binder, pen 370-180 without solvent 2. balanced mixtures of granulate and new aggregate 3. evaluation of functional characteristics of cold-recycled paving. Laboratory tests and full-scale field trials show that it is perfectly possible to achieve significant improvements in the quality of cold-recycled paving.
