摘要

Audi Accident Research Unit (AARU) is the designation for an interdisciplinary research association between medicine, psychology and technology initiated by AUDI AG. The AARU was established at the end of 1998 as a manufacturer specific accident research unit.The objective of Audi is to further improve active and passive safety of Audi vehicles by analysis of real accidents involving Audi vehicles.Efficiency of new side protection systems in real accidents is demonstrated by using GIDAS and AARU data for the performance evaluation of side airbag systems. This revealed that questions concerning the efficiency of new specific safety systems can only be answered timely by processing manufacturer specific accident research data. GIDAS data showing the efficiency of a particular safety system are not available earlier than approx. 2-5 years after most vehicles have been equipped with these systems.
