Atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements and scanning chemical microscopy (SCHEM) were performed for the investigation of corrosion process of the galvanized steel. The optical microscope and atomic force microscope were used for the observation of corrosion process on the galvanized steel under the atmospheric corrosion condition. It has been proven that AFM system combined with KFM is effective in the investigation of atmospheric corrosion of the steels which otherwise was difficult to evaluate by conventional method. The protection effect to the corrosion of the galvanized steel was not only sacrifice protection of Zinc, but also covering on the iron part with the corrosion product. It was indicated that at the part (Zinc) of less noble potential, the corrosion on the steel was growing under seashore environment. The protective loll to atmospheric corrosion protection was explained by SCHEM system measuring the pH distribution.
