The oblique flow appears frequently in lower Yellow River channels and the oblique flow dashing and washing dyke is the main reason for dyke breaching. The interim section of crooks, lower Jiaonizui and ditches are spots oblique flow easily appears. The radical changes of flow conditions are the major factors of oblique flow forming. So comprehensive measures as the following should be taken to reduce the opportunity of forming oblique flow: through slowing down the changing process of flow from the upper reach, perfecting engineering measures and embankments, dredging rivers and arranging disadvantageous river currents and silting and filling ditches.
