摘要

The startup project for river dredging at the Yellow River estuary implemented in June of 1998 has not played a good role later because some people hold different opinions in respect of its necessity, feasibility, expected results and assessment criteria, etc. Proceeding with the analyses on sedimentation change, existing problems and improvement measures of the lower river course, the necessity of river dredging is discussed in the paper , and its feasibility in theoretical development, engineering practice, construction technique and sediment disposal is stated. In accordance with the inspiration from the project, the concepts of " dredging" and " sedimentation reduction" are distinguished so that the target and assessment criteria for river dredging are advanced, as well as a standpoint of "keep on dredging as long as the YR is running".
