This paper proposes a new concept of traffic signal control system that is operatedrnwith realtime individual vehicle information available from wireless communicationsrnamong the signal controller, vehicles, and traffic detection systems. This study is onernof the national transportation technology development projects funded by the Ministryrnof Construction and Transportation (MOCT). The technologies presented in this studyrninclude integrated system development of the new type of signal controller utilizingrnwireless communications such as dedicated short range communication (DSRC), etc.rnThe conceptual architecture of the proposed traffic signal system is provided in thisrnstudy with the strategic, systematic and functional requirement.
