High Speed Twin Roll Casting of Aluminum Alloy Strips

摘要

High speed twin roll cater equipped with a casting nozzle was devised in order to increase the castingspeed of aluminum alloy strips. Features of the caster of the present study are use of casting nozzle, copper rolls,non use of lubricant, low superheat casting and semisolid casting. Melt was poured on the roll surface from thenozzle. Pool of the melt was formed between the rolls. The melt, which was on the solidification layer, was cooledbetween the nozzle and the melt pool. Superheat of the melt of the pool became very low, or the melt becamesemisolid slurry. Strip casting of A1050, A3003, A5182 and A6063 was tried. The strip could be cast at the speedof 60 m/min. The A3003 strip showed good heat softening resistance like strips cast by the conventional twin rollcaster.
