摘要

In today society of information, personal data arerncollected, exchanged and manipulated at a great speed,rnand in a variety of manners, challenging the attempt of thernindividual to manage her/his own information. While it isrngenerally recognised that current technologies potentiallyrnreduce the privacy of the individual, when compared tornthe level of privacy enjoyed in the past, it is as wellrnacknowledged that electronic devices can also be used asrnmeans for preserving privacy (PPT) or may at leastrnimplement features that encompass legitimaternexpectations of privacy (“privacy by design” approach,rnwhich is the current trend fostered by the EU). A goodrnbalance instrument to ensure privacy while not impedingrnthe circulation of information is the recourse tornanonymity. To work properly (e.g. for the advantage ofrnthe individual), anonymity must be to some extentrncontrollable by the individual. Moving from suchrnconsiderations, this paper briefly analyses the legal notionrnof anonymity and the necessity to grant the individualrnwith a degree of self-deciding power over it. Finally itrnwill shortly mention the INSIEME project, whichrnrepresents a concrete attempt at designing an ICT productrnembedding privacy and control of the anonymity.
