Bluetooth can be regarded as one of the most promisingrntechnology for short-range wireless connections. Wirelessrnconnections reduce the need for cables and offer flexiblernmeans to establish a communication link between devices.rnIn addition, the miniaturization of electronics will givernmore opportunities to implement new applications forrnexample in industrial environment [8]. Despite therngrowing variety of commercial Bluetooth enabled devicesrnthere are only a few devices that are designed forrnindustrial applications. Rough environmental conditionsrnand their influence on the devices’ behaviour and longtermrnreliability must be taken into account beforernBluetooth devices are suitable for industrial applications.rnThis paper introduces the test methods that were used tornevaluate the performance and long-term reliability of fullrnfunctional Bluetooth devices in heavy industrialrnenvironmental conditions. The tests were conducted usingrncommercial Bluetooth adapters from two manufacturers.rnThe results of the reliability tests were promising since therntests did not reduce the functionality of one tested adapterrntype in the industrial operating temperature range.
