摘要

In order to improve implants such as the aortic prosthesis, surgeons and bio-mechanical researchers need to know the stresses induced by the blood flow on the prosthesis. As measurements in vivo are not possible, it is necessary to resort to modeling of the blood flow, in order to evaluate these stresses. Blood is a non-Newtonian fluid showing phenomena which cannot be represented by the traditional models. Previous work [1] and [2] shows that it is necessary to account for the blood micro structure. Hence, the Phan-Thien and Tanner model (PIT), derived from polymer rheology, is used here. This work studies the shear stress and the first normal stress difference. As one particular assumption of the PTT model seems incompatible with the behaviour of blood in an aneurysm, a novel model is proposed. Nevertheless, it was found that the modification of this assumption does not significantly modify the results. This study also shows the importance of the shear thinning behaviour of blood.
