摘要

Wetting influence on shear strength of coarse-grained materials is significant in earth-rockfill dam engineering. With a new apparatus for holding constant stress state in triaxial wetting test, the triaxial tests of coarse-grained material are carried out in the states of dry, saturation and wetting. The peak strengths under different confining pressures are obtained. The results indicate shear strength in wetting state is lower than that in dry state. The cohesion reduces more than 25%, but the friction angle changes very little. The shear strength of soil after wetting is basically equal to the value of saturated state and will not change under different wetting stress level. The sequence of dry and wet during wetting test has little influence to the peak strength. The conclusions and rationality are analyzed from the angle of soil wetting deformation characteristics and shear strength theory.
