In this paper, propulsion system dimensioning and operational benefits of the CRPrnAzipod~? propulsion system are presented. System dimensioning is based on the datarnreceived from model tests conducted at the Samsung Ship Model Basin in South Korea.rnThe CRP Azipod~? propulsion system was shown to have the best hydrodynamic as well asrntotal propulsion efficiency when CRP, twin-screw twin-skeg and single-screw systemsrnwere compared in model tests. As an example, dimensioning of the CRP Azipod~? systemrnfor ULCS is presented in detail and differences compared to other propulsion systems arernconsidered. Finally, an operation cost comparison between CRP Azipod~? and twin-screwrntwin-skeg system for 12000 TEU ULCSs is presented. The CRP Azipod~? system is clearlyrnthe most efficient propulsion system when operation costs are considered.
