Requirements of designing and detailing for transfer of lingitudinal shear forces, across interface shear planes through webs and flanges of composite concrete beams and across shear planes through flanges cast monolithically, are specified in Clause 8.4 of Australian Standard AS3600. Detaling of the interface in a composite concrete beam to resist longitudinal shear is crucial to develop monoithic action in such a beam. Recent reearch established that the provisions of Clause 8.4 in AS3600 are conservative. This paper crically reviews the existing design provisions of the standard for normal strength concrete (below 50 MPa).
