An inelastic Rayleigh-Ritz method, deveviously by the authros, is used to analyse the local buckling response of unilaterially constrained mild steel plates at elevated temperatures. Unilateral restraint arises when steel plates are bolted to the sides of reinforced concrete beams in order to both strenthen and stiffen them, and although utilised in other situations, the depolyment of bolted steel plates in the upgrade of reinforced concrete structures is the motivation for the study presented in this paper.
