Abstract: storage and display of mammograms could significantly improve operations in breast cancer screening programs. If mammographic films are scanned with high performance instruments, enhanced display and/or computer-aided diagnosis may improve diagnostic performance. We are studying observer performance with digital mammograms printed with 1.9$MUL magnification, skin line equalization, and background masking. The purpose of the study is to establish that mammograms can be digitized with no loss in quality and displayed so as to improve observer performance. Performance measures of interest include diagnostic accuracy and interpretation time.!8
