The Hetao irrigation district lies in the west of Inner Mongolia, bounded on teh west by Wulanbuhe desert, on the east by Baotou City, on the south by Yellow River and on the north by Yinshan mountain. The district is 250 km in length from east to west, and present irrigated area is 0.5773 million hm~2, and willdevelop to 0.7333 million hm~2 in a long-range plan. The Hetao irrigated district is an alluvial plain by Yellow River. The terrain is flat, and slopes from southeest to northeast are ranged from 1/5000 to 1/8000, and the elevation varies from 1050m to 1019m. The main crops are wheat, corn, oil crop, sunflower, melon, fluid and vegetable. In contrast to other products, the local products are better quality and greater valve with plenty of sunshine and much temperature difference between day and night.
