A fuzzy set methodology for determining the performance reliability of fire protection systems is presented. The method is then used for determining the reliability of an aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) fire suppression system. Fuzzy failure probabilites, determined from standard failure rate data, were propagated through fault trees to determine probabilities of both failed-safe and failed-dangerous scenarios.
