With the ever-increasing cost of new military aircraft, operators are forced to maintain their aging fleet for far longer than originally anticipated. There is thus a need to ensure that appropriate ations are taken to maintain continued fleet airworthiness. Analytical tools are required to optimise inspections for aircraft fatigue damage. The Numerical Evaluation of Reliability Functions (NERF), a probabilistic analysis tool has been specifically developed to provide that capability. This paper describes the NERF methodology, and demonstrates its features by application to a critical location on a trainer aircraft.
