In this paper, a brief overview of thehistory of thermal plasma modeling will be presented, including theeffects of turbulence and deviations from local thermodynamicequilibrium in certain parts of thermal plasma systems. Based on sometypical examples, the development over the past 60 years will beillustrated, restricted to high-intensity DC arcs, their electroderegions, and to plasma jets generated by such arcs
