A comprehensive comparison and study on the shapes, ornamental patterns and chemical compositions of the ancient glass utensils in Guangxi show that they are all glasses with large quantity of potash but little magnesium, different from those of the western countries. We can rule out the possibility that they were imported from the West. They may possibly be another new type of products following early Chinese lead-barium glasses.Since the fifties of this century, some ancient glass cup and plates have been excavated in Guangxi. In order to know their sources, the chemical compositions of these glass vessels were analysed. The EDAX analyses and density measurement provide us with further knowledge of these glass utensils.
