AECL has been the designer of 25 commercial scale CANDU direct R reactors now in operation, with more under construction. AECL has taken the evolutionary approach in developing its current desings, the CANDU 6 and CANDU 9 Nuclear Power Plants. An integral part of this approach is to emphasize feedback of experience to the designers, in a continuous improvement process.
