The indoor climate control systems have an even more increasing diffusion in civil and automotive market fields. The traditional system are based on the air temperature control, while the human thermal sensation is directly related to the heat exchange with the environment. This phenomenon is ruled by the radiative and convective heat exchange and the only air temperature measurement couldn't be sufficient to maintain the most suitable thermal conditions (comfort status). To be able to perform more realistic measurement in a practical and easy way, a smart hot film sensor has been developed. The sensor allows the characterisation of the environment without any hypothesis on human condition (clothing, metabolism). The sensor is based on two hot film elements heated via Joule effect at two power levels. In each element is also integrated a surface temperature sensor. With a suitable algorithm it is possible to identify the typical parameters of the environmental model: thermal robustness and operative temperature.
