Photovoltaic Systems for Poverty Eradication Programmes: Case Studies from Guyana's Hinterland Indigenous Communities
In 1998 and 1999 the UNDP and the Government of Guyana (GoG) implemented projects to design and install photovoltaic power systems in the twelve indigenous hinterland communities on the South-western fringe of the Iwokrama International Rainforest Project area in Guyana. These projects were components of an ongoing UNDP/GoG Poverty Eradication Programme (PEP) and were aimed at the improvement in the social conditions of the indigenous villages via the use of sustainable energy systems.
