Using available thermochemical data and solubility measurements in the sodium carbonate -bicarbonate system, a solution model has been developed for high ionic strength applications over the temperature range 0 °C to 100 °C. The basis of our model is the ion-interaction theory of aqueous electrolytes due to Pitzer. It was found that a greatly simplified Pitzer model was adequate for describing the solubility curves.
