FOSTERING CRITICAL REFLECTION IN MANAGEMENT LEARNING: A LITERATURE REVIEW

This paper aims to delineate some of the major issues related to reflection and critical reflection concepts in the domain of management learning (management of learning and learning of management). Four sets of issues in literature are identified to reflect the different, tacit assumptions between reflection and critical reflection: The purpose of reflection and critical reflection (Teleology); the essence, or fundamental stuff of reflection and critical reflection (Ontology); the types or content of reflection and critical reflection (Typology); and the practice of the reflection and critical reflection (Technology). It is hoped that the paper will stimulate thought and discussion for cross-cultural learning on systems thinking and knowledge management, as it will present issues as such the importance of identifying power relations in knowledge production or critically reflecting on one's own practical experience for the change and betterment of the practice. Besides, the literature review in this paper complements the other two works the authors present in the conference, 'CONCEPTUALIZING AND COMPREHENDING REFLECTION AND REFRACTION, MOVING TOWARDS A "REFRACTIVE MINDSET"?' and 'LEARNING TO BE REFLECTIVE AND COLLABORATIVE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY (MOT) AND KNOWLEDGE'.
