Different methods for obtaining WO_3 powders suitable for gas sensing have been developed. Aqueous and alcoholic solvents proved to be the most promising media to grow nanometric particles. Morphological characterization highlighted that ethanol and a di-chetone led to a finer grain with a more homogeneous size distribution. Thick films of WO_3 responded to NO_2 with high sensitivity. In particular the samples arising from ethanolic solution proved to be the most performing layers.
