In this paper we study the problem of priority elicitation in the analytic hierarchy process and propose a new approach to deriving interval priorities from interval number complementary judgement matrix (INCJM). First, a simple yet pragmatic method of consistent test is developed to check whether a fuzzy complementary judgement matrix is consistent or not. The fuzzy consistent judgement matrix is transformed into interval equality constrains. Furthermore, the definition of consistency for INCJM is provided by equivalent matrices. In the case of consistent INCJM, a linear programming method is used to derive consistent interval weights from consistent INCJM, and checked whether or not an INCJM is consistent. Second, the synthesis approach of interval weights are also investigated, that is, the local interval weights are generated global interval weights. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the validity and practicality of the proposed methods. Both example and theorem are explored the effective and feasible.
