Production lines for Cu(In,Ga)Se_2 solar cells are based upon a standard cell design which was notsignificantly modified for a long time. In order to meet competitive cost goals the present device design needsmodifications that help to overcome limitations with respect to efficiencies and use of material. Subjects ofdevelopment for new production lines are the modification of the absorber deposition process. Use of differentsubstrates and back contacts offer new possibilities of cell and module design Process modifications and low costapproaches for absorber deposition are discussed with respect to the trade-off between reduced area relatedproduction cost and limitations in efficiency and yield.
