This paper describes two PV systems installed at the University of Leicester. The first system, on theroof of the Concrete Laboratory, has been in operation for more than 2 years and data collected over that period hasbeen analysed using a suite of software programs developed in a student project in the Department of Engineering.The performance ratio of the 7 sub-arrays of the system, which are subject to different levels of shading, have beendetermined and are compared to assess the influence of shading, in particular from a nearby tree, and the actualposition and the effect of different module topologies (series or parallel connection). Under the prevailing conditionsparallel connection is shown to have a distinct advantage. Early performance results from the second system, recentlyinstalled on the Main Library, are also discussed.
