The mass concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were investigated in twelve university classrooms of Changsha from September 2007 to January 2008.The effect of indoor activity and outdoor pollutant on indoor particle concentration levels were also analyzed.Long periods monitoring was conducted using TEOM and DustTrack under natural ventilation condition.Mean 24-h indoor concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were 128.44 and 95.31 μg/m3 on workdays and 122.49 and 105.05 μg/m3 on weekends,respectively.The results showed that diurnal variation of PM10 was more evident than PM2.5,indicating that PM10 was mainly influenced by human activities.For several classrooms near to the main road in the school,fine particles would be more correlated with outdoor particle pollution ascribed to traffic.The correlation between indoor and outdoor PM10 showed that indoor particle concentrations were influenced by outdoor concentrations under non-activity conditions.High indoor to outdoor ratios (I/O) were observed when intense activities took place.High peak values were also found in both morning (7:00-9:30 am) and evening (7:30-10:30 pm),which mainly attributed to human activities during the periods of going to school and back to the dormitory.
