Wood engineering has been a requirement in civil/structural engineering education curricula forcenturies. In 1990, a comprehensive survey was conducted of wood engineering educationprograms in US post-secondary institutions. The results of this survey served the wood industryand academia well as a planning tool, but now are out of date. A new survey has just beencompleted to lay the groundwork on how and what kind of wood education to provide for thenext decade (2010 to 2020) to ensure that graduating engineers have the knowledge needed tomeet the national and international demand for wood structural design. This paper willsummarize the findings and make need recommendations based on current trends.
